The Long and Winding Road

My sis and I were huge Beatle fans. She had them on a mug, I had their hair cut. We were so excited when they appeared on the Ed Sullivan show in 1964! My mom thought they were awful, but we didn’t care.

Even after my sis had left home to be in university, I still was a die-hard Beatle fan. Learning all the words to all of the songs, then belting them out to feel free, and bug mom too, of course – bonus! 🙂

I have always found this one to be particularly moving and haunting, just as much now (nearly 50 years later) as when I first heard it play on the local radio station. Timeless classics.

The long and winding road that leads to your door
Will never disappear, I've seen that road before
It always leads me here
Lead me to your door

The wild and windy night that the rain washed away
Has left a pool of tears, crying for the day
Why leave me standing here?
Let me know the way

Many times I've been alone, and many times I've cried
Anyway, you'll never know the many ways I've tried

And still they lead me back to the long and winding road
You left me standing here a long, long time ago
Don't leave me waiting here
Lead me to you door

But still they lead me back to the long and winding road
You left me standing here a long, long time ago
Don't keep me waiting here
Lead me to your door
